Hi there,

Sounds like you are in a bit of a panic. But its not a good idea to start your project without thinking it through, even if you do not have much time. You will be better off in the long run if you spend a few precious days planning than jump straight in and realise in a week that you didn't plan any controls or use scientific method when you desgined the experiment.

So, lets try and turn your idea about coroding nuts and bolts into a scientific plan with some controls and ways of measuring the results.
Why are you trying to "eat" the nuts and bolts? are you trying to re-create a real life situation? like how to store or protect nuts and bolts from environmental corrosives? or wht material to make nuts and bolts so that they don't corrode?

there are a couple of different variables you could test :
1. nuts and bolts of different materials
2. different environmental corrosives

For type 1 experiment you would subject all the nuts and bolts to the same "eating" solution.

For type 2. you would use the same material nuts and bolts but use different "eating solutions"

I think type 2 might be easier to assess the results for. Because the nuts and bolts would look identical, and weigh the same at the beginning but for type 1 assessing the results would be more difficult. What do you think about this? How could you measure the effects of the "eating" solutions?

For type 2 you could try "eating" solutions with things like sea water, acid/vinegar, soil/dirt, cooking oil, air, etc
Part of the experiment could include whether you could observe any different at 2 weeks or at 4 weeks.

If you post your plan, people will help you iron out the details,

best of luck,

Caroline

Thanks so much Caroline!!!!

i was in a bit of a panic but i actully took an extra week and thoght every thing through. i put the nut and bolts in different solutions and they have been in there for a couple of week. one of the solutions is coke. people say it eats the nuts and bolts but it really doesnt. pepsi is much worse on them.i used bleach too and it rusted the nut and the bolt but the nut really really bad. i ended up using many cleaning products some of the rusted and some didnt and i put bone in them so i could see if its doing that to the bones imagine what it is doing to our insides.

Thanks again
Jana :D
