Reverse Osmosis HELP NEEDED

Hello. I need help on my science project. I need to know how to cheaply preform DIY small scale saltwater reverse osmosis. I'm researching, "How effective is reverse osmosis in the bacterial removal?" The CDC says highly effective but that's never a guarantee especially due to organic volatile organisms which can get through easily and the acidic pH levels.
