Project Question: I am helping 2 kids in my school who are doing science project. One of them travelling to Asia for a 3 week vacation and they wanted to use the trip to compare things which could be different. I suggested to look into astronomy. Is there any other things to consider that one can do a experiment in 2 different countries and compare?

Porosity of soil and rain water runoff

Post by deleted-83937 »

Hi All,

I am helping 4th graders to come up with a project and during the brain storming session , one of the student wanted to know how different rocks can hold water. So we talked about porosity. During this discussion we had an idea to test the porosity of the soil along different rainwater runoff since here in Arizona water is a scarcity, but most of them runoff and do not drain into the ground. Is it a good idea to collect the top soil from 3-4 rain water runoff and test its porosity. Is this a good project to do?

Hi bumblebee,

Science Buddies has some really good projects outlined in the Science Fair Project Ideas section. I did a search for porosity, and found some good leads for you:

I also see your question about ideas to compare from different countries. Taking a good hike and making notes of the types of plants, animals and insects (especially in the summer) will show striking differences between two countries.
