Project ideas

Post by emily-joseph47 »

I am searching for a science project (year/grade 10) with qualitative/measurable results to be done over the next month or so. The proposal is due in a week. :D

One of the great features of our site is the project selection wizard. Have you tried that? https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... deas.shtml . It will ask you some questions and then help point you towards a project idea.

Do you have some question just burning inside you that you need to know? Projects can be a lot more fun if it's a topic that really excites you. Do you know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? It's not 3 as the commercials used to suggest, but something more. You could build a robot to find out. Another concept is Just Noticeable Difference where you start with something and then start adding more until people can just notice the difference. If you hand someone two bags of coins that weigh the same, how many more do you have to add before people think one weighs more? Or make batches of cookies with differing amounts of salt. How much more salt do you have to add before people think they're different? Marketers use this in reverse. A bag of coffee used to weigh 1 pound. They experimented and discovered you can go down to 13 ounces before people noticed the bag was lighter. We still think of that bag as a pound of coffee (seriously, we do) and are willing to pay for the pound even though it's 3 ounces lighter.

A great way of finding a project is to think of a way of answering a question you always wanted to know. Are there any questions like that eating at your brain?
