Additives

Post by deleted-315914 »

We are performing the science fair project "Gel Well". Is there a certain gelatin product to use? We are currently using Knox Gelatine. All os our results are with 6 quarters. Also, having a difficult time making the test instrument level when adding quarters. Any suggestions? Also, Do mix the additives with gelatin before putting in molds? We have performed the experiment 5 times and the gelatin is not gelling well. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello nneese424,

I’m assuming that you are working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ml#summary

I don’t think any special kind of gelatin is needed for the project. The brand that you’re using should work. According to the project procedure, the additives go into the molds then the gelatin is poured in.

After pouring the gelatin onto the molds, did you refrigerate for 24 hours? If so, maybe a longer refrigeration time will help with setting the gelatin.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.

I have been mixing the additives into gelatin. Should I not be doing this? Are you saying to pour additives in mold, then gelatin on top?

Hi nneese424,

The project procedure instructions call for adding the test additives to the molds. See step 4 under the heading “Preparing Your Popsicle Molds”. The prepared gelatin is then poured into the molds.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
