Hey I'm doing the experiment for my college course and will be implementing this in a 2nd grade classroom, but I am confused about the control group with this experiment. In the bubble-ology experiment would my control group be the water with only soap and then the glycerin and corn syrup solutions be my variables? If so which would be my independent and dependent variables and if not then how can I make this into a controlled experiment?

Bubble-ology Experiment (Beginner K-5)

Bubble-ology looks like it will be a lot of fun for your 2nd graders!
You are on the right track. The basic bubble solution is water and soap, so that solution will be your control group. Try to keep as many things constant between the mixtures as you can: water source, soap brand/bottle, temperature of the liquids, amounts. These will be your controlled variables. The independent variable (the thing you are changing) will be the additive: glycerin or corn syrup. You can think of the additive in your control solution as being just 1 Tbsp of water. This tablespoon of water in the control keeps the total volume of each solution constant.
The dependent variable that you are observing will be how long the bubbles last. You are trying to see if the lifetime of the bubble is dependent on the changing additive.
