Why is the speed of light important?

Post by deleted-321347 »

Hello, so I am working on the Abstract for my science fair project that is about measuring the speed of light with a microwave oven. The thing is, I'm not sure how we can use this experiment in real life. Any suggestions?

The speed of light is a very important concept in science. For example, in astronomy, the speed of light is used to measure distance in light years. One light year is the distance light travels in one year, and in order to know that, the speed of light must be known first. In addition, the speed of light can be used in quantum mechanical calculations to determine the behavior of electrons in an atom, which helps scientists understand things they cannot even see.

These are just some of the ways that knowledge of the speed of light has impacted scientific research from the great cosmos to the tiniest particles.
