Antacid Science Fair Project
I am planning a SF project using antacids (TUMS, Alka-Seltzer, and Gaviscon). My plan is to make "stomach acid" for each of these antacids to be tested on. I will crush a tablet of each individual antacid and then see how many grams of each tablet it takes to neutralize the pH from 2 up to 4. My question to you is: how can I form a valid question or hypothesis pertaining to this experiment. Am I actually determining the effectiveness of each antacid or should I simply test the recommended dosage (per the package directions) and see if it is actually enough antacid to relieve heartburn? I hope this makes sense. I don't have the resources or access to a formal laboratory in which I can use the titration method on the antacids. Help! Thank you in advance.

Re: Antacid Science Fair Project
You experiment is determining the effectiveness of each antacid by gram. You could use your finding to demonstrate which product is most effective per gram and compare the products on a gram basis. You could then take that information and by calculating how many grams each dose is (the package directions) figure out which product is most effective if used as directed.
Sounds like a great project! Have fun and good luck!
