Sucrose & Glucose & Fructose, Oh My!

I am having difficulty figuring out how much of each fruit contains 4g of glucose. I want to find out how much of certain fruit a diabetic should take to raise blood sugar. For ex:
If a mango has a 0.5% glucose reading on the test strip, how should i go about finding how much mango contains 4g of glucose??

Hello,

An excellent project idea! On the bottom of the "Testing the Glucose Strips" on the experimental procedures tab, there is a table to help you convert the % glucose to mg/dL. You can then use this to convert to grams of glucose in each of the fruits you are testing in the procedure. I have attached the link below:

WHen I am finding the % of sucrose converted, if the original glucose concccentration was really low, should the sucrose % be high?

Hi Faith,

Which part of the project are you doing? I am assuming you are on the section of the project where you test glucose concentrations after adding the enzyme to foods. Even if the glucose concentration is low, the sucrose concentration may not necessarily be high. There could be other sugars contributing to the total sugar content of the food.

15mL is 0.5 ounces. Does that help? You can also google conversions from ounces to mL, assuming you know the ounces, there are online calculators that can help you convert.
