Algae growing

Post by deleted-355010 »

I've recently been doing a lot of reading on algae and potential implications on bio-fuels and nutritional supplements. I'm interested in trying to see if I can create the proper conditions for them to grow but do it as cheaply as possible. I am currently prescribed ritalin for AD/HD and was doing a report for a med class and became interested in the effects certain drugs had on the CNS system of humans. The idea dawned on me to figure out how a CNS stimulant might affect algae. Ritalin is relatively nuetral with a pH of 7.2. I know that they do not have a cns but does anyone have any hypothesis?

It does not look like this has been studied.

Search for "Methylphenidate effect on algae", not much of relevance comes up.
