chemistry of natural dyes and tinkering with circuits
I teach 8th grade and, although they get their basic science education from another teacher, I have a large block of homeroom time in which I would like to do supplementary work in chemistry and physics. Specifically, I am interested in the chemistry of dyeing fabrics], with a large range of natural dyes. Also in tinkering with circuits. Do you have any ideas, or, even better, lessons that I could use to do this. I am not a science expert, but I love to experiment and am totally willing to try and learn. Thanks.

Re: chemistry of natural dyes and tinkering with circuits
Hi bonnietoo,
We have a few different resources related to dyes. This first gives step-by-step directions for experiments that explore how different types of fibers absorb dyes:

This project is only slightly related to fabric dyes. It uses the dyes already present in silk ties as a way to color eggs:

Finally, the page below links out to a video about natural dyes:

We have more resources for circuits. This search result page lists all of the different circuit-related projects. You can filter them by difficulty, cost, time, and material availability using the menu options at the right side of the screen.
