What is a jig?

Post by deleted-296711 »

For the experiment regarding measuring electromagnetic radiation in cellphones, I do not quite understand what a jig is, what it does, or how important it is. "jig" is found in the procedure. If by any chance you could explain the concept of the jig for this project it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey there!

This looks like a fun project! Now, to answer your question.

The concept of the jig is to be able to have the phone in the same spot each time you measure it from a set distance. You could think of the "jig" like a tripod that you can mount a camera on. So, it is something you purchase or build to securely hold your phone while you do measurements,

In this experiment it appears that the jig is very important, because you must be able to use your RF meter to measure microwave radiation from the front, back, and sides of the phone. There will be multiple measurements and they should all be done at the same distance.

The building of the jig is a creative process, and there are many factors that need to be taken into account. The materials used to build the jig should not interfere with the measurements, or block the path between the phone and your RF meter.

In the procedure document there are some tips to help you:

I hope this helps, please let us know if you have any other questions!
