Do I Need Stem Cells For This Project?// Need help understanding the Procedure

Post by deleted-299335 »

I have found a project that I am really interested in and would like to do as my science fair project, but I am having a little trouble comprehending what materials I will need. The project title is:
"Creating a Kidney: How Stem Cells Might Be Used to Bioengineer a Vital Organ"
Here is the link (you may need to copy and paste it into your browser):
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #materials
The only materials listed are a computer and a lab notebook, but the procedure (I think) suggests that more than that is needed.
Please reply as soon as possible!
Thank you in advance,
:)

Hi zwc2016,

Stem cells are fascinating! In this project you use bioinformatics, a cool field merging biology and data analysis on a computer, to answer your project's questions.

"Creating a Kidney: How Stem Cells Might Be Used to Bioengineer a Vital Organ"

Of course, there is still a ton of new information that could be found through lab work and stem cells. However, this project is about using a computer and bioinformatics to organize and analyze data scientists have already gathered through lab work and put on the internet. You have access to the data, you don't need to gather it in the lab! :D

That's how the project is organized: to help you answer how stem cells might be used to bioengineer a vital organ through bioinformatics.

As you can see (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure), the procedure asks you to do research or look at data, not to do any wetlab work.

However, you can always personalize the experiment to include some wetlab work! If you do, please tell us how. We love learning about cool new ideas and experiments. Check these variations out: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... eityourown

I hope this information helped! If not, or if you have any more questions feel free to ask us! :D
