Please help we know it works but we cant figure out why?

Post by devmonsterd »

My mom and I have started a scienc fair project for my 4th grade class. The question is, Can you pick up an ice cube out of a glass of water using a string with salt on it? We have done the expiriment several times and it works. It seems the salt melts the ice and then refreezes enough to lift the ice cube out of the water but WHY? We are unable to find why or how this is possible. Please help us. Thank you.

Hi devmonsterd!

If you supply "Can you pick up an ice cube out of a glass of water using a string with salt on it?" to answers.com you get several websites. The first of these seems to answer your why question. You may want to look at some of the others.
Cheers!
