Cas9/CRISPR

Post by deleted-391088 »

Hello,

I'm an 11th grade student and we have to do a project for school. I'm very interested in biotechnology and I was wondering if I could do a project using Cas9/CRISPR or if this would be too complicated. We only have an hour a week to work on our project.

Hi Herm0ine,

CRISPR/Cas9 is an extremely interesting topic for a project, as it is a very relevant gene editing technique that working molecular biologists use all the time. However, professional scientists working in a laboratory have access to many reagents that a typical student may not be able to access.
There is another thread in which in a student uses a new commercial kit to do CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing which looks like it would be good for a student, and not extremely time consuming. viewtopic.php?f=28&t=16502&p=57744&hili ... 92d#p57744
The title of the post thread is : Counting E. Coli colonies in ODIN CRISPR Kit
The kit is expensive, however, so that might be something to think about.

Hope this helps,
Elizabeth
