My kid is planning a science fair project with Silver nanoparticles inspired by one of the project idea with title
"Looking Downstream: Could Nanosilver in Consumer Products Affect Pond Life?"
He was planning to check whether Silver Nanoparticles can affect growth of algae. He got a culture from Carolina Biological Supply Company and planning to prepare the mixture by taking 10 ml of culture mixing with 200 ml of spring water as they instructed. He is having doubt how he can mix correct concentration of colloidal silver to get exactly .025 ppm, 0.01 ppm and 0.005 ppm in the algae mixture.
He was planning like this, mix 60 ml of algae culture with 1200 ml of water in Jar# 1.
Prepare 0.5 ppm Colloidal Silver mixture by mixing 999 ml of spring water with 1 ml of 500 ppm Colloidal Silver in another Jar# 2.
Then prepare experimental group like this (in triplicate)
0.025 ppm - Take 95 ml of Algae mixture from Jar#1 and mix it with 5 ml of Colloidal silver mixture from Jar# 2 (0.5 ppm)
0.01 ppm - Take 98 ml of Algae mixture from Jar#1 and mix it with 2 ml of Colloidal silver mixture from Jar# 2 (0.5 ppm)
0.005 ppm - Take 99 ml of Algae mixture from Jar#1 and mix it with 1 ml of Colloidal silver mixture from Jar# 2 (0.5 ppm)
0 ppm with 100 ml of Algae mixture from Jar# 1
Is this the correct way of preparing the mixture?
after 14 days of growth find out the chlorophyll a count and compare it with control and experimental group.
