How do you grow Lactobacillus in an MRS agar from the capsule form

Post by deleted-404492 »

Hi there!
I am doing my science fair project on Lactobacillus. I am planning to supplement it with different vitamins and see if these supplements will strengthen the colonies enough for it to survive penicillin. (partially survive). I was wondering how I could grow the Lactobacillus using MRS agar. The Lactobacillus will be coming from capsules.

Thanks so much for the help!! :D

Hi Elizebeth thank you for the info
I was just wondering, that the Lactobacillus that I ordered comes in a capsule. So what kind of broth could I use to culture it in?
Once again thanks :D

Hi EshanRasul,

You grow Lactobacillus in a media that is the same composition as you would use to make up the agar plates (except dont add any agar).

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for your reply I was just wondering that since my lactobacillus comes from a capsule would I just pour it onto the agar to grow it?

Thanks :D

Hi EshanRasul,

I have never worked with these capsules so I do not have any first hand experience on the best way to culture them. I am sorry no one else has been able to get back to you. In the previous thread I posted earlier they mention that you can not just pour the powder on the plate and suggest diluting it in 0.9% sodium chloride solution - details are provided in the post. viewtopic.php?t=15667
