Silly Putty or not so Silly

Post by deleted-407524 »

The experiment is what is the correct ratio to get homemade silly putty?
Apart from doing the experiment we test the physical properties of the mixtures.

My question is the following, the science report has a format with many limits, in the conclusion ...

This is the answer in this format ...

The purpose of this investigation was to find which ratio of ingredients
Does the correct mixture create Silly-Putty?

In conclusion the findings were that when it is tested elasticity the average
For 3G / 1B was102cm., 5G / 1B was 108cm., And 7G / 1B was 109cm.
In the test of moldability the average for 3G / 1B was 8: 47min., 5G / 1B was
10: 04min., And 7G / 1B 16: 07min.
And in bounciness the average for 3G / 1B was 21.3cm., 5G / 1B was
15.8cm, and for7G / 1B was 15.5cm.And pressure 3G / 1B "3" was excellent,
5G / 1B "2" was good, and 7G / 1B "2" was good.

So 3G / 1B had the most properties Silly-Putty had .Therefore I accept the
Hypothesis that if I mix 3tbsp of glue solution and 1 tbsp of borax solution
Then I get the correct mixture for Silly-Putty. The possible reasons for
The results are that after each test the sample lost its moisture.

OUR OBSERVATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS ARE...

The observations and then the conclusion in this experiment are...

Of the 5 mixtures I made, only three formed the consistency of the Silly Putty.
(3G/1B, 5G/1B, 7G/1B).
I observed when it's more the ratio of Glue the tone of food coloring it;s more lighter the tone of the red color.
My hipothesis was correct the mixture of 3 glue and 1 borax had the most properties
of silly putty had.

In the test of Elasticity the mixtures were closer being the same., because they weren't vary 6 cms between 3 mixtures.

In reference of bounciness, I observed that the mix 3G/1B bounced highest and more time than others. I conclude that mix was the lightest from all three.the mixture 7G/1B is more dense, heavy and Resilient.

When I testing the moldability I conclude the mixtures of 3G/1B and 5G/1B the time to retain the shape was similar, and the mixture of 7G/1B take more time because
show more Resilient.

The Mixture of 3G/1B shows excellent capacity to retain the shape when it's pressed.

The possible reasons of the results are more ratio of Glue solutions , more dense and resilient its the mixture.

The teacher say our observations and conclusions are wrong.....

Hi cybellepoleo,

Thank you for your very detailed post. Can you please share with us what your teacher's guidelines for your observations and conclusion are? If we know what your teacher is looking for, we can help you more effectively.
All the best,
Terik
