Probelm Interactive Art Work Won't Work

Post by deleted-406218 »

So, no one has replied to our post of two days ago. We have tested all parts and all have charge. The servo motor work independently, but not while wired according to your instructions. The breadboard is not fried. This leads me to conclude that either the instructions are incorrect, or some of the resistors you told us to use are not the correct number of K or ohm. We've rebuilt it three times and nada. It would be really great if one of your "experts" could try to build it to tell us if you can get yours working...

Is there anyone who's been able to make this work?

Best wishes,
Aaron

Original Post: HELP! We followed directions to build the servo motor with the breadboard for the Interactive Art Work Project. At one point, we heard the servo turning, before we added the diode. It worked intermittently, but the photo resistors were definitely working sometimes. When we finished, it would not work. We took it apart and rebuilt it and NOTHING.

We tried the trouble shooting steps, also those did not cause it to work. We read a posting about if the server could be turned by hand or not. Ours can be turned by hand.

He must have this project completed by the end of this week. Any help you can give us would be great. We ordered the servo and all the parts here from Jameco. Could one be bad? Why would it work intermittently before, but not now?

Please elaborate on the troubleshooting steps you took. This is where the problem could be.

I made sure all connections were in securely. Then, I checked to make sure no wires were touching one another. Then I checked the voltage on each part--all resistors, breadboard, battery pack, pos and neg jumper cables, photosensors. Then we rebuilt it--three times, according to the directions you provided. Then we replaced the breadboard, in case we fried it. Then we tried a new servo in case we fried that. We checked to make sure the black stripe of the diode was in chip pin 6. We checked that all pins were inserted into corrected rows, according to directions provided. We made sure we are using 6v battery pack, which incidentally is not included in the materials list of the experiment.

Is there a wiring step missing?

We are able to turn the servo manually, which according to another post means the circuit is not putting out.

Anything else we can try?????

Good evening,

My daughter chose this project for her science fair. It is due in two weeks time. We spent over 6 hours today trying to get this to work. She ran the experiment twice, I did it once and my husband did it twice. Each time we disassembled and reassembled all pieces. We tested battery pack and servo to validate their functionality. The bread board is fine as well. My husband has electrical wiring background and expressed there are issues with the wiring design.

Please review the project experiment steps for errors. It would be prudent to remove this project from the forum until it is resolved so other children do not run the same risk of choosing it and being unable to complete.

Please contact me with any questions or answers via my email associated with this account.

We've tried this project also. Repeated the process several times and nothing is working. Please if anyone is monitoring this board a reply is greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

My son first had some trouble when he did this project. It was hard to find the pin 1 dot on the chip. Once he gifured that out the project went fine. Like the instructions say it matters a lot which resistor you use in what space. Check the colors. He made one of these for an electronics class project and got an A.

We will try again tomorrow. The 555 were using was from Jameco. It has the indentation on it. So we didn't have to look for the dot. But to be safe I will inspect it. Thanks.

Congratulations on the A :D

Still not working properly. Maybe you could post a picture of the breadboard configuration :)
