To whom it may concern,
I have recently entered my project at both school and regional level. At the school competition, I placed in my category (Biomedical and Health Sciences) and third place overall. At regionals, I placed second in my category and was chosen to go to the state competition.
The title of my project is: Ascertaining the Bacteriocidal Effects of Various OTC Acne Medications on E.coli. I chose five different acne medications (On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, Neutrogena, Acne Control Cleanser {CVS brand}, Noxema Ultraclear, and Clearasil). Of the five, there were two products that stood out the most. Clearasil killed the most colonies. In the first trial, the number of colonies went from 63 to 7 and in the second trial, it went from 37 to 3 colonies. The CVS brand of acne medication actually grew the E.coli. In the first trial the number of colonies went from 103 to 134 and in the second trial, it went from 146 to too numerous to count.
I hope to do well at a state level and I hope to add something to the project that doesn't require any changing in the title, abstract, or procedures as all my paperwork has been finalized. Any suggestions help and I would be ecstatic if the suggestions you gave me helped me at least place at the State competition.
Thanks in advance,
Anna Collins (Junior in High School)
