Hi Haku,

Your project seems similar to something I did. I had also asked for help so here is the topic thread:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... php?t=1573

Check it out and see if my project is like yours. Hope it helps! =)

Hello, Haku!

What kind of research into self-propelled cars and the construction of boats have you done?

Hi Haku!

You can provide "How can I build a self propelled car or boat that can go can five meters?" (without the quotation marks.) to answers.com.

Three notes in using answers.com:

1. Generally, the "Sponsored Links" are commercials. So, it's best to skip them and use only the "Web Results."

2. With answers.com, you may need to tweak your wording for best results.

3. Related to #2 above, there is a lot of output, so limiting the search would be useful!

Note: I wasn't sure from your post whether you were building a car or boat.
Cheers!

Hello, Haku!

Science Buddies offers a web page that describes the importance of performing background research. The page includes suggestions on how to conduct that research. Here is the link:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... blio.shtml

Learning to do background research is an essential skill that will help yoiu in many areas of your life. It will also help you formulate specific questions to present to this forum, which is the topic described under the heading "Talk to People with More Experience: Networking" on the web page, above.

There is also some interesting information on using the scientific method for investigations such as these. I believe the guidelines presented are good ones:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentorin ... thod.shtml

As for the self-propelled car, I did a couple of web searches and found this link that you may find helpful in desinging the car:

http://www.seps.org/cvoracle/faq/mousetrap.html

As for the boat, I would suggest that you do research on bouancy and water displacement. The fundamental question you are trying to answer is whether or not you can displace enough water to float the weight. A simple search on the Internet for these subjects should yield substantial results.

By the way, it's a common civil engineering project at many universities to ask students to design and build a working (floating!) canoe out of concrete. I'm sure you can find lots of links to read about the principles involved by searching for these kinds of experiments. This link may be a good place to start:

Have fun!
