Iodine: Water Filtration

Post by deleted-469432 »

Hi,
I am thinking about performing a science project on the effect of different amounts of iodine on water filtration. I was wondering how would I measure the quality or pureness of the water? What tool or instrument should I purchase or use?

Thank you.

Hello Allison! I'm doing a similar project, so I can help you out. There are two things you can test:

Turbidity: Basically clearness. You can buy meters off of Amazon for around 15 dollars.
Biological Contaminants: Bacteria. Pour some agar plates and put some water on it before and after treatment and observe the growth of the bacteria. There are tons of websites that go in more detail that will help you out.

Hope I helped!
