nutrient broth pH

Post by deleted-488509 »

Hi,
I was wondering if the nutrient broth used to grow lactobacillus's pH could be changed from 6.9 to 6.8 for example.
I wanted to see if changing the acidity of the broth would affect the probiotics growth rate, modeling the stomach acid. Thanks

Hi scienceperson222,

This is an excellent science fair topic! :D I have posted my suggestions for your project below.

Changing the pH of the nutrient broth from 6.9 to 6.8 is a very subtle change, and may not generate data that could suggest a difference in growth rates. Instead, try changing the pH of the broth from 6 to 7 or 6 to 5. It's important to change the acidity of the broth with pH 1 intervals if you want significant results.

I hope this helps!
