"Learn how to disinfect contaminated water through solar disinfection."
We are conducting this experiment for a science project.
This project requires a blue reptile bulb.
Question: can we use a red bulb or aquarium bulb? (these are the two bulbs our local store carries)
We are tying to figure out the difference between all three bulbs; blue reptile, aquarium and red bulb.
Thank you for your time, it is VERY much appreciated.
Blessings,
Hinkleman's

Hi Hinckleman's, and welcome to Scibuddies.
The blue bulb is designed to mimic sunlight while the red bulb is used as a 'night-light': https://zoomed.com/nightlight-red-reptile-bulb/
Since the project requires a lamp that produces the same spectrum of light as sunlight, you should try to order the blue bulb online. There are a number of online suppliers.
The blue lamp produces the uvrA spectrum that is necessary for the project to work: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure
