Bipolar Disorder

Post by kat99992 »

Even though I am in 8th grade I am only kept at ease if I am doing somthing extremly chalengilng.

I really want to do a project on "Bipolar Disorder" but I don't know what questions to ask.

I have already done some reserch and I have previously showed that I am capeble when I studied Anerexia and Buliema in the 5th grade.

I would really appericiate it if you could help me find a good question;and if its not too much to ask mabey even a way to test it.

I don't want to get stuck doing a cheepy project like some of the other kids in my class are doing.

Please help me. Thank you for taking your time to read this, just...thanks. :D

My dad suggested that I do it like a report style type project.
I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
Do you agree with this suggestion :?:

Hi kat99992,

I think that your Dad's suggestion is a good one. It would be hard to come up with an experiment to test something related to bipolar disorder. Even if you do a report style project it doesn't have to be all text. You could use models or diagrams to show different parts of the brain and some of the theories about what is different in bipolar disorder (i am not a neuroscience expert but think that the exact way that bipolar disorder effects the brain is not fully understood).
Maybe you could also ask your teacher if a report style project would be ok and talk to them about your ideas.

Best of luck,
Caroline

Hi! I'm Julia, I'm 15 years old and I suffer from bipolar disorder type two. I've known for about six months that I suffer from this incurable disease. Most people don't find out that they have this disorder until they're between 18 and 21 by then they have wasted a lot of time. You need to understand that there are different types and that it isn't something easily diagnosed.Anti-depressants only make it worse and a lot of the time it is only diagnosed as depression, so a lot of bipolar people commit suicide.

It mainly effects the neuro-transmitters...It is caused by genetic genomes...Bipolar disorder is genetic...

Yes, Julia is right, bipolar disorder does seem to be influenced by genetics, although the exact genes and changes in them are not known yet and its not understood how the environment interacts with the genes to cause the disease.
This resource has an interesting table about the evidence for genes being involved in bipolar disorder
http://www.pendulum.org/causes.html
It does involve changes in neurotransmitters, which is why anti-depressants were tried as a treatment, although as Julia says they do not work for everyone and can sometimes make symptoms worse. The Mayo clinic has a good general summary about bipolar disorder that includes treatment and diagnosis information.
