Hi Ian,
The purpose of this board is to try and help you find your own answers not do the project for you. Maybe we can help you to look in better places for answers that will be more satisfying.
What was it about the information that you found that wasn't satisfying. Where were you searching ? On the internet? in a text book?
Where did you first find the information that ginger could be used for hayfever?
I also read your other post that you are also interested in what is in ginger and if it can be used to prevent intestinal parasites. That sounds like a problem that could be turned into an experiment.
If we know what grade you are in, how long you have to do your project and what kind of facilities you have (do you have access to a lab? or will you do your experiments at home?), that will also help us help you.
Post back and we will help

Hi Ian,
It sounds like there are two main things you need to do. First is to look for some other background information about ginger that you think is more reliable. The internet can be a good place to start but sometime there is so much there and a lot of it is not very helpful. Sometimes you can find more reliable information in the reference section of the library, starting with an encyclopedia and then looking for more detailed books. Ginger is used in traditional chinese and indian medicines so you might be able to find some information in books about chinese or indian traditional medicine.
The second thing is to think about designing your experiment. Usually it is not possible (or safe) for secondary students to grow parasites to test but some teachers may let them grow other kinds of harmless worms or bacteria to test for their experiment. You might be able to design an experiment to see if adding ginger to the growing environment of some worms makes them grow slower than worms in a normal environment.
You would need to think about the types of measurements you would make and how to keep everything as similar as possible between the two groups of worms except for your test variable - the ginger.
Keep posting back with your ideas and plans.
Best of luck,
Caroline

One of my group mate said that duranta erecta can kill parasites so we decided that duranta erecta will be our new subject or object. Ahh can you tell me what chemicals does duranta erecta has? and lastly why it can kill parasites?

Hi Ian,
As I said before, we are not here to tell you the answers just help you to figure out how to do the project yourself.
I would advise the same kind of approach for finding out about duranta erecta as I said for ginger - try the library reference section. Look in encylopedias or books about traditional medicines. It might be difficult to find out what the active chemicals are because quite often these things are not known for herbal medicines. Also it can be difficult to find out how they work (the "mechanism of action" of the medicine) because this may not have been scientifically determined for a herbal medicine. Often it has been just observed to be effective for many years and no one has ever studied how or why. That can make it difficult for you to do a project on. But you could still design some good experiments to see if you can see any effects in your experiment.
Bets of luck,
Caroline
