Which is Best Vertical or Horizontal Wind Powered Generator?
I am doing a science fair question for which is a better wind powered generator: a hozizontal one, or a vertical one? I need this done by November 3rd. HHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPP MMMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I read that
most horizontal axis wind turbines "have a gearbox...which turns the slow rotation of the blades into a quicker rotation that is more suitable for generating electricity" and vertical axis wind turbines have "lower energy extraction efficiency" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_turbine).
Most of the wind turbines used now are horizontal axis while vertical axis wind turbines are a newer idea. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power)
Try a google search and I'm sure you will find more details to help with your project.
Good Luck.

This sounds like a very interesting research project. hiramuzammal has given you a couple of great suggestions for where to go for more information. I'd like to add to those.
It turns out that there are several problems associated with the traditional horizontal axis wind turbines - the ones that look like huge fans or old-fashioned windmills. Several alternative vertical axis designs have been developed, each havng its own plusses and minuses.
I suggest that you search the Web using the following search phrases:
vertical axis wind turbine
horizontal axis wind turbine
Wind Amplified Rotor Platform
There is quite a bit of information available about this new technology. Your challenge will be to separate the advertising hype from the real facts.
Best wishes for success!
