The good news is that science is everywhere. You can start by thinking about something in your own house or yard that you would like to further investigate. Most likely, it would benefit your community as well. Such as recycling. If you do it at home, others in your community can participate, and the larger population benefits as well.
If you search science buddies for environmental science, there are many ideas that you can expand on or create to relate it to your community.
