Materials for Fuel Cell Project

Post by deleted-673012 »

Hi, I've decided to pursue the project titled "Fuel Cells-Fueling the Future". However, I have altered the procedure in a fashion that allows me to test the efficiency of the fuel cells at different temperatures in an effort to replicate real world scenarios. However, the fuel cell kit the site recommends is quite expensive. Is there a cheaper product on the market that would work for this experiment? In addition, would you need one resistor per trial, or does one work through multiple trials?

Thanks,
Jhon

Hi Jhon,

I’m assuming that you are working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... fuel-cells

For this experiment you don't need the solar panel that comes with the recommended fuel cell kit. You might try contacting Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies to see if they can supply the components other than the solar panel at a lower price.

I think the resistor will work for multiple trials. But these are inexpensive so you might want to have a few on hand just in case.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.

Hi, Thanks for the prompt response.

I am using a variation of that experiment and have contacted Horizon Fuel Cell multiple times over the course of the last few months. They have yet to reply.

Thanks,
Jhon

HI,
Based on the lack of response, is there any other source you would recommend for the fuel cell?

Thanks,

Hi Jhon,

You might try the “Fuel Cell Store”. This business sells both kits and components from Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies. The following link shows the recommended kit and list of included components:

https://www.fuelcellstore.com/solar-hyd ... it-fcjj-16

And the following link shows the fuel cell component:

https://fuelcellstore.com/fuel-cell-edu ... -fuel-cell

Other components from the kit are also available from the Fuel Cell Store. You may be able to put together the components you want at a slightly lower cost. Sorry, but I'm not aware of another small PEM fuel cell that could be used for this project.

I hope this helps. Please post again if you have more questions.
