measuring the speed of sound in water

Post by deleted-685259 »

Hi,

I'm planning to do an experiment in which I determine how temperature of water affects the speed of sound throughout the water. My problem is I'm not sure what the easiest/most effective way of measuring the speed of sound in water is. If anybody could help with this that would be greatly appreciated

Hello scienceguy1237,

Sorry, but I don't know of an easy way to measure the speed of sound in water. Unfortunately I could not find any methods described online. There are published procedures but these are in journals that don't have open access. You can find these articles by searching with Google Scholar. Also you might try searching your school or public libraries for articles on measurement methods.

Information on calculating the speed of sound in various media is available online. Here's one example that may be of interest.

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.
