So In short, how are fossils used to determine the age of the earth?

I'm not 100% sure on this (someone please do correct me if i am wrong  ) But I think they use carbon dating of the fossil to measure how long ago the earliest known organisms lived. They then use that along with the rocks that were found around the fossil to approximate the age of the fossil. However in terms of the age of the earth scientists use radiometric dating of pieces of the Canyon Diablo meteorite to calculate the relative abundance of elements that formed as the radioactive uranium decayed over billions of years.

Hopefully that helped

Fossils are exciting, but for a science project, you have to come up with a question and research on how to answer the question before finalizing the project.
