Where to buy bacteria

Post by deleted-797119 »

So, for my science fair project, I will need the following bacteria: Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Akkermansia municipila. I have searched through the internet and don't know where to buy it. What is a good place to find these bacteria?

If you are having trouble trying to find these types of bacteria, try asking your teacher first. They are more likely to be able to find it for you or guide you to a certain store or website that would carry it.

Hi,

I think this is a good place to get access to the bacteria for the experiment: https://www.atcc.org/en/Products/Cells_ ... teria.aspx

However, this page usually needs some certifications to verify your qualifications to handle the bacteria, therefore, try to ask your teacher to buy them for you.

Best,
Elise

Thanks to everyone for helping! I will check with my teacher to see if she agrees to buying the bacteria.

I checked the site and noticed that all the bacteria cost above 300$. Is there a place to find these bacteria for a cheaper price?

Any idea? Will any local university have the bacteria?

Yes, any university/college with science labs will likely have a variety of bacteria, but it may be hard to find all 3. However, at least 2 of the ones you're looking for are offered as nutritional supplements, and can likely be cultured from those pills, assuming you know the growth conditions. How to culture lactobacillus acidophilus

Post by deleted-797119 »

So on the Carolina Biological page, it says i need to culture lactobacillus acidophilus on tomato juice, milk broth or yeast extract.

Does this mean I do not need agar/petri dishes? How is it different from other bacteria?
