Povidone-Iodine Solution 10% for Vitamin C experiment

Post by doshimd »

Hello,

I happen to have Povidone-Iodine Solution 10%.
Can it be used for the titration experiement to find Vitamin C levels in different kinds of orange juices?
The one suggested on the Science Buddies project page is Lugol's solution.
Just wondering if Povidone will work or will I need to buy Lugol's

Thank you!

Hi Md,

I'm assuming that you're working on the project described here:

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... -vitamin-c

My suggestion is to use the Lugol's solution specified in the project materials list. This is known to work for the vitamin C titration experiment. Povidone - iodine solution contains an organic compound and an iodide not present in Lugol's solution. These ingredients may interfere with your titration.

I hope this helps. Please ask again if you have more questions.

That's helpful to know. Will get the Lugol iodine.

Thank you so much for clarifying!!
