I am doing a scientific research report in class. My research question was "What is the effect of changing the intensity of two different exercise routine on the burn of calories using pH indicator solution, considering the same person undergoing the experiment." We are comparing which exercise routine will burn more calories. The 1st routine is high in intensity with short amount of time and the 2nd routine is low intensity with longer amount of time. Our method of finding the result is blowing carbon dioxide into a tube filled with pH indicator solution. The pH indicator solution will change color when carbon dioxide is present. My hypothesis was that the 1st routine will burn more calories.
I need a scientific explanation to support my hypothesis. Can you please help, ASAP.

In this project you compare amounts of exhaled carbon dioxide at rest and after exercise. You've described a slightly different experiment where you're comparing exercise routines of different intensities and durations. But the rationale for either experiment is as explained in the Background section of the project. In short, exercise results in more cellular respiration which increases carbon dioxide and energy production.
