Vitrification/Cryopreservation

Post by AnaV »

I'm going to do the science project on Cryopreservation-freezing plant tissues...and when i was researching I came across what is vitrification..where a process is used to get rid of ice crystals in the product to be frozen. I wrote this down in my backround report, and my teacher asked me if that is true, then why wouldn't i need to vitrify my seeds...I don't know either! please help me! :(

Hi AnaV,

What do you think the ice crystals are made of? (don't think too hard on this, its basically what ice is made of)
Do seeds have any of the ice-forming substance inside them? Are seeds wet or dry?

Hopefully that helps you answer your question. If not post back and we can keep talking through it.
