Gauss Rifle Experiment

Post by CASonCamera »

Help! I'm doing a science fair project on a Gauss Rifle. I need to find some citable sources for my background research, but I don't seem to be running across anything other than assembly instructions. I don't need those as I am looking forward to purchasing the kit you provide.

In addition,My research question is: If the magnetic stages of the Gauss Rifle are altered by distance, will that affect the distance the projectile travels? Based on this question, do I need to research velocity, momentum, and magnetic fields and things like that? If so where can I find this? Please help me find good sources!

With much appreciation,
CASonCamera

Hi CASonCamera - Please make sure you've read through the background information in the project (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... auss-rifle). It provides some good baseline information on which you will build with your own background research.

You will need to research and understand the physics behind how the Gauss Rifle works, which means you do have to understand those other science concepts you've listed in the context of the project.

In terms of finding other resources about Gauss Rifles, you might also try searching for background information about magnetic linear accelerators.
