Is it possible to use alcohol instead of lighter fluid and use black sand instead of white/beige sand?

Hello,
The fire snake is a great activity! Yes, you can use black sand, as the color does not affect the chemical reaction; it is only supposed to act as a non-flammable base and contain the reaction. You should be able to substitute alcohol for lighter fluid. Just note that it will likely work better if it is a high-percentage alcohol. Have fun with this experiment!
