Question about a Metal Spoon Heating Faster Than Water

Hello!
When I put a metal spoon in a cup of hot water, the spoon becomes hot very quickly while the water cools more slowly. What physical property of the metal causes this difference in heating?

The physical property of the metal that you are referring to is the metal's specific heat capacity. The specific heat capacity of a given metal measures for a given metal how much energy, or heat, is required to raise the temperature of a one-kilogram piece of metal by 1°Celsius. Water, for example, has a very high specific heat capacity, allowing it to absorb a lot of heat before actually vaporizing. Metal, on the other hand, has a different molecular structure. The molecular structure of metal disallows for the individual molecules and atoms to vibrate a lot, which causes the material to heat up very quickly with less heat.
