In this experiment, why we use Phosphate buffer solution instead of water even though it examines the effectiveness of cobalt nitrate in water split process?

Re: Water to Fuel to Water
Hi there,
The point of the Phosphate buffer solution is to decrease the amount of energy required in order to split water. If you take a look at Equation 2, the catalyst here is the phosphate buffer solution, as it is able to increase the rate of water oxidization. The cobalt ions need the buffer solution, or the phosphate in this case, to mimic photosynthesis, where the reactant of water is matched with the product of oxygen. Hope this helps.

Water to Fuel to Water 2
Hello guys.
I have a question regarding "Water to Fuel to Water: The Fuel Cycle of the Future
" experiment.
What is the role of Magnetic stir plate in this experiment?
Is this experiment about how to increase the efficiency of the water split process by using Cobalt Nitrate catalyst?
Additionally, I am not sure anyone can help me. If fine, can you guys download and send me the video in this experiment page? I cannot access it since I am the boarding school in China. Thank you!

Hi - Unfortunately, we are not able to send the video to you as a file. The video is on YouTube, and it sounds like you may not be able to view YouTube videos? I apologize if that is the case. The video is supplemental to the project and not required to complete the project.

Question Regarding Experiment Procedure
Hello guys.
I want to ask bleep about conducting experiment.
Since I cannot buy Cobalt nitrate hexahydrate in China, I bought Cobalt nitrate standard solution. It is 2% and 100ml. I want to clarify whether it is fine to use this solution. Is there anything that I should be cautious?
Thank you!

Regarding hydrogen as a sustainable energy source
Hello, guys. I have a question regarding hydrogen's role in sustainable energy sector.
Is hydrogen used to generate electricity or store generated energy?
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #objective
Is this experiment about how hydrogen can be used to generate electricity or how water can be used to store generated sustainable energy with high efficiency?
Thank you!

Re: Water to Fuel to Water
Hello,
Yes, this experiment is about how hydrogen can be used to generate electricity or be stored as hydrogen gas to then later be used to generate electricity.
Researching online you can find many examples of small scale, hydrogen power generation projects.
Here is a resource explaining many different uses for hydrogen: https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/hyd ... drogen.php
