trying to demonstrate that the change in magnetic field increased by the number of turns in the coils. i created the experment and when we connected the ends of the wire to the battery, the coils get hot but no magnetic field is generated. we followe the instructions on the Strenght of an Electromagnet experment, but i am unable to attract the paper clips or the washers to the magnet coil wire. please advise as soon as possible

Hi,

A magnetic field will ONLY be generated with a CHANGE in electric field. That is you need to interupt the current in your wire.

If you leave it DC then your wire (which is very low resistance) will get hot as all the energy is dissipated on it.

I made a mistake in my statement below.
You don't need a change in electric field to generate a magnetic field.
So I am not very sure what is going on with your experiment.

Did you follow this step ?
7. Disconnect the coil from the battery, and count how many paper clips (washers) were picked up. Record the number in your lab notebook. Repeat at least five times for each coil.
