1. Dry Ice (CO2)
2. Oxygen Gas
3. Nitrogen Gas
4. Methane Gas
5. Bromthymol blue indicator solution
6. Dilute house ammonia with 1 part ammonia to 50 parts of distilled water
7. A graduated cylinder
8. A funnel straw
I am in Gr. 8 and doing a science fair project on Global Warming and the project requires these materials. Do you know where to get them?
Thanks!
Please don't use that color! It is really hard to read.
You should ask your science teacher about this project. The gas must be used at school under superivision- gas cylinders are very dangerous. Your teacher probably has items 1, 5 and 7. I don't know what a funnel straw is, but you can by funnels at any home goods store or hardware store. "house ammonia" is used to clean the house, so you 1) may have some at home or can 2) buy it where you buy cleaners (bleach, windex, etc) Read the label very carefully- ammonia fumes are very strong, and can be dangerous. Distilled water- either your teacher has a tap that provides this or you can buy at the grocery store- it is usually called "steam distilled water". The stuff your teacher has is better though- I find that most plastic water bottles leach chemicals in to the water, so it isn't as pure as the stuff from the special distilled water tap.
This experiment sounds interesting, but from your list you will need your teachers help getting the items, and you should probably have adult supervision and work in a chemical hood if your school has one.
