Hi Irregular,

Congratulations!!! It sounds like the CWSF was a great experience, and I am so happy that you won an award on your first year at this science fair. And the scholarship award will be a big help in the future. I saw the schedule for the science fair, with activities from 6:30 am until 10 or 11 every night and I knew you would be busy for the week.

I'm even happier that you are planning next year's project already. Doing a project this summer is a great idea. I will try to think of some ideas for you. Why don't you start a new topic on the science buddies website? If you will do that and send a message to this topic, I'll be able to respond right away. Environmental or medicine would be a good main subject. You want to work on a significant problem. I'm sure some of what you have learned on this project in chemistry, microbiology, electricity and even collecting mud from frozen lakes will benefit you on whatever your next project is.

I am so excited that you won!

Hi Donna!

Thank you so much! It was amazing! Yes, you're right, they really kept us busy.

Okay, I'll start a new topic right away. I'll share some articles, journals and ideas with you on that thread. The topic will be in grades 6-8, of course.

Hopefully you're right, that this year's learning experience will benefit me for next year!

Thanks!
Sincerely, Irregular (:

Hi Irregular,

You can look at your local newspaper to find information on local environmental problems or current medical topics. Once you have a topic, you can investigate the best way to do a science project on that subject. Also check out the science buddies website; they have added more topics, but beware of projects that are rated "10" in difficulty. Also, you should consider an insect project. You can work on seasonal organisms when doing a project during the summer. Good butterfly and beetle projects are fairly rare in science fairs.

Also, I think I have asked this before, but are there any local schools or companies that you can contact to ask for lab space? You would have more flexibility in designing the experiments if you had space in a research lab to work in. If this is not possible, then you will be limited to experiments that you can safely do at home.
