My daughter is in third grade. We submitted her question and it was revised to a question involving how many basil leaves can be harvested from a plant if the plant is grown in a greenhouse, outside and in a window. We have to submit topics for research monday. The topics I have come up with are
What is a greenhouse
Benefits of growing in a greenhouse
What factors(that may not be right words) are required for optimal plant growth
when and how to harvest basil leaves.
From these research topics she must write 4 single spaced pages of notes. For the life of me I don't think we are going to get 4 pages of notes from these few topics.
Does anyone have any other suggested topics? Or suggestions???

Re: Help with third grade project on greenhouse growing
Hi flmom,
You are off to a good start with that list. You could add some research on the structure of plants (specifically the basil) and how it will change as the plant reaches maturity. Also maybe research expected results - maybe someone has done the experiment before.
About the notes - keep in mind four pages sounds like alot, but once it is written out in sentences, it will go fast. A drawing of the plant struture will take up some space, too. And remember, when writing up the final project, she will summarize all these notes into a paragraph or too - she will decide then what is important enough to go into the summary.

Re: Help with third grade project on greenhouse growing
Actually the final research paper is due Sept 17th and has to be 1 typed page, this sounds so much to me for a third grader.
Thank you very much for your response.

One typed page - what a great learning experience! Please let us know if you need more help, or want feedback on her final report. Good luck
