Is this project possible?

Post by photosynthetic »

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there was any scientific evidence to support the hypothesis that photosynthesis could occur at a faster rate than organisms already do in the wild.

If there are any articles or references you know that would be extremely helpful!

Thanks!

Hi,

This is an interesting and unique idea for a science project! I did a quick search and did not find any scientific references on the topic of speeding up photosynthesis. Have you tried doing a search on your own?

However, here are some ideas. First do a search on requirements for photosynthesis. You will find that plants need light, carbon dioxide, nutrients, water and an optimum temperature for photosynthesis. Is anything else required? Your background research would include all of the information you can find on what plants need for photosynthesis.

Then, perhaps you could do an experiment and artificially increase the amount of carbon dioxide or light and grow plants at the optimum temperature to see if photosynthesis is increased. Or pick some other parameter to try based on your research.

Since this is a science fair project, you need some way of measuring photosynthesis. Perhaps you could adapt one of the methods for measuring plant growth from the Science Buddies website for your project.

If you follow the step-by-step guide on doing a science project, I think this would make an excellent project.

Please post again if you have any questions.
