Sickle cell anemia

Post by shakoya09 »

What makes sickle cell disease more harmful than sickle cell trait? I need to do a science fair experiment, are there any suggestions.

Hi Shakoya,

Welcome to Science Buddies! This is a unique idea for a science project, but you have some work to do before developing this into a science project. Here are some suggestions to help you get started:

Here is a summary of information on sickle cell disease from a scientific source. Please note that there is a bibliography that you can use to check for more detailed information. You should do as much background reading as possible so you will be an expert on the subject.

As you are reading more about your topic, think about what question you could ask that could be answered with the resources that you have available. I’m sure there are questions that still need to be answered on this topic using a carefully controlled experiment.

Here is one idea from the Science Buddies website that could be adapted for your topic. It is a difficult project, but could be completed by your deadline if you have good computer skills.

Since you have a limited time available before your project is due, I also recommend that you look for alternative projects that can be completed within a few days. The sickle cell project idea is really good so you could save it for next year. Here is a list of project ideas on this website.

Good luck! Please post again in this topic if you have questions.
