Mice Science Fair Help URGENT

Post by jluke45 »

Hello ok so i need to think of some science fair projects that involve the effects of different drugs, chemical, substances on a mouse's bodily functions (weight, blood pressure, heart rate) This type of science fair is accepted by my region since the mouse will be undergoing momentarly stress. I really do not want to do any maze projects because they sound WAY to childish for a high school science fair at a magnet school :D So anything related to drugs and the mouse is welcomed and appreciated. I have plenty of time to perform the project, but the idea is due on TUESDAY!! PLese help and thank you!!

Hi jluke,

Your question is so broad it is difficult to answer. There are thousands of drugs and chemicals that could be tested, but since you did not express any particular interest I cannot tell what would make a good project for you.

Considering the difficulty of access of prescription drugs, if I were doing this I would choose from compounds available over-the-counter. How about testing a variety of energy drinks? They have an effect on humans that can include changes in heart rate and blood pressure, but I don't know if they would have the same effect on a mouse.

Weight-loss products are another big seller in the store and there are a zillion different kinds. Maybe you could test some of the major ones to see if they have an effect on the weight of your mice.

If you haven't done so, read the Scibuddies guidelines on the use of vertebrate animals as it is very important to follow federal policies or your school can get into serious trouble. https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... mals.shtml

Once you have a topic, repost to this thread and we can help you devising experiments to test a hypothesis.

Good luck,

Sybee
