"Stressed Out" project,(Materials Science)

Post by SMargaret »

I've been trying to research my topic for my science fair, and I used the "Stressed Out" project. My purpose is to find out which type of beam can hold the most weight without collapsing, and which is more efficient, but I can't seem to find any good, reliable information about the different types of beams (I beams, H beams, etc.)! I need to find a couple good websites, but I haven't found any yet!Help please!

Hello and welcome to the forums:

I searched for web sites discussing various beam geometries, and Wikipedia has several good articles about this subject. Could you be a little more specific about what you're looking for and what you found (that doesn't meet what you need)? (Consider that "I" and "H" beams are basically the same.)

Thanks and we'll try and help if you can be a little more specific.

I Have found the uses of the beams and such, I just need sites that tell the dimensions of the beams and how they respond to different types of stress, and I surprisingly haven't found any good websites on it. I would also like the websites to be school-approved if possible, (like not wiki, ask . com, and yahoo-etc.) Also, the types of beams could be I, U, or T beams as well.
Thanks!
