Project Question: I am making a spectrophotometer. I need a diffraction grading slide of 500 lines per mm. I understand you can get this online, but I need this before december 1 and am wanting to know if you can buy this in stores?

Science Fair- Building a Spectrophotometer

Post by mgoble »

I need a diffraction grating slide for building a cell-phone spectrophotometer. It needs to be 500 lines/mm. Also, what is the difference between the 1000 lines/mm, and the 500 lines/mm in the diffraction grating slides?

Hi mgoble,

The Project Idea materials list links to this item on Amazon, which should work for your project.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZB ... B006ZBISI4

The difference between a 500 line/mm and 1000 line/mm diffraction grating is that a 500 line/mm has 500 lines for each millimeter of length while the 1000 line/mm grating has 1000 lines for each millimeter of length.
All the best,
Terik
