DNA Extraction

Post by bounlom_ »

Uhm, Hey. For my science fair project I am using the Do-It-Yourself DNA provided by Science Buddies as a basis and I was planning to extract from vegetables as well and I was wondering which vegetables would be good to use. I have a science fair partner and he really likes celery and wants to use that but I'm still not sure about the celery. heeh heh (: Thanks!!

Hi!

The first step in the procedure would be to homogenize the vegetable, i.e. make it into paste. So, I would recommend picking a vegetable that is easy to puree and is not starchy. Off the top of my head, peas and onions would be good choices!

Good luck with your project,
Tanvi.
