lemon vs. pineapple

Post by joeyv »

Will pineapple juice or lemon juice keep a cut apple from turning brown for the longest amount of time? Should I keep the apples in the refrigerator or out for the experiment/

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Why not try both temperatures? That way you can look at the reaction times. Just remember that you would now have 2 experiments, one where you compare the two preservatives (lemon juice vs. pineapple juice, and a 2nd experiment where you compare browning times for 2 different temperatures.

How will you determine when the apple slices turn brown? It is a process with quite a bit of variance, so you will need a good way to decide the degree of "brownness" to use as the end of the experiment.

Let us know how it works out!
